Corey Brown goes to bed every night dreaming about making his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers. But there was a time when it appeared he might not wake up at all.
Back when I was 16 I had viral encephalitis, which gives you swelling of the brain, Brown explained.
It affects about one in 200 people. Basically, I was in a coma for three weeks and they said to my mother, If he wakes up, he wont remember a thing and will need help for the rest of his life
Playing Rugby for Northern Suburbs and topping the competitions try-scoring list in 2012 saw him earn a contract with the Western Force and a debut against the touring British and Irish Lions, Corey has now set his sights on capturing the same form in one of the toughest competition in the world.
Signing a two-year deal with the Tigers, where he will push for a spot in the centres, Brown has turned to renowned sprint coach Roger Fabri to recapture that explosive speed that set tongues wagging in his Rugby debut.
Completing the punishing workout that is known by all athletes who work with Roger, Corey is hopeful his training and knowledge gained will see him lacing up the boots and running out on the field come round one of the 2014 competition.
